    Introduction

Like no other time in history, Christian ministries are subject to increasing scrutiny by both the general public and governmental authorities. Through the Growing Together Toward Excellence program, AGRM member ministries can demonstrate their Christian commitment to good stewardship, financial accountability, and integrity.

The official certification program of the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions has two very distinct levels. In the first level, organizations meeting the acceptable "industry standards" for well-run rescue ministries are recognized as "Certified Missions." The second level, called the "Certificate of Excellence," recognizes ministries that are models of effective programming and operations, exemplifying the best of what rescue ministries can be in their service to God and to those in need.

In essence, the certification process is a very comprehensive management and organizational review. At the same time, it is also an educational experience. In the program, both directors and staff members engage in an organized evaluation of the most important operational components of their ministry. This inevitably results in an a more efficient organization with more effective programs.

These vital components of a successful organization include:

    • Federal, state, and local regulations impacting facilities and operations
    • Buildings, equipment, and capital assets
    • Procedures and policies that relate to a safe and efficient operation
    • Philosophies, goals, and objectives for all ministry programs
    • Staff training and educational needs
    • Accounting and fundraising practices
    • Relationships with supporters, clients, and community

It is our hope that your experience in the Certification program will be highly profitable. It was developed as a service to you, so please feel free to give your input on any phase of the program.
