East A                   Manager of Alumni Programs, The Bowery Mission and Kids With a Promise, New York, NY; Heidi Peterson, SuccessNet Coordinator, Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities, St. Paul, MN; Mike Rideout, Director of Ministries, Seattle's (WA) Union Gospel Mission  - Each panelist will share what they are currently offering in the area of after-care - clients who have finished traditional programming. Hand-outs will be provided.

 

Douglas                Building a New Facility:  What You Need to Know, Ask About, and Watch - Thomas J. McLaughlin, Executive Director, Buffalo City Mission, Buffalo, NY - The mission completed a new facility this past summer.  Tom will share what they learned through the process.

 

Cherokee              Cents & Sensibility: How Couples Can Agree About Money and Other Important Financial Matters - Bruce Bruinsma, CEO, Envoy Financial, Colorado Springs, CO; Bethany Palmer, Executive Director, Envoy Financial, Colorado Springs, CO - Author Bethany Palmer and Bruce Bruinsma will address issues of vital importance to marriages and understanding your money.  Workshop will include tools for couples to understand different money personalities and how to work together on financial issues.

 

Gwinnett               The Counseling Process for Recovery Programs - Michael Liimatta, Director of Education, AGRM, Kansas City, MO - Guidelines for developing a comprehensive system to identifying client needs, assisting them to develop workable goals and objectives, and coordinating services while they are in the program.

 

Forsythe               Creating an Integrated Web Strategy - Todd Baker, VP, Marketing and Brand Development, Masterworks, Poulsbo, WA - The power and potential of the web in strengthening relationships with existing supporters, expanding reach to new audiences, and driving increased revenue and expanded ministry impact is more fully realized when the web is working together well with other communication channels, such as direct mail, radio, space ads, events, TV and other media.

 

Grand Salon A     Donation Processing Procedures - Steve Vancza, Director, Information Technologies, Atlanta (GA) Union Mission - With 13 years of experience, come see how Steve has been able to increase the productivity while reducing staff, especially during the busiest holiday season, to only 3 people processing 88,000 donations per year and keeping one of the best maintained databases among non-profits.

 

Grand Salon C     Hiring the Right Development Staff and Keeping Them - Brad Meuli, President/CEO, Denver (CO) Rescue Mission - Brad did an action research project for his M.A. in Leadership relating to turnover vs. long-range tenure for development officers.  Data gathered provided information in understanding why development officers stay on the job.  A four-step hiring strategy for retention will be discussed.

 


 

Newton                 Imploding as a Leader: How to Avoid the Fall and Run the Long Race to the Finish - Chasz Parker, Executive Director, Rescue Mission Alliance, Syracuse, NY -. Leadership and personal character development reviewed from Biblical, research, and practical approaches on why Christian leaders fall and how we can overcome and persevere during our ministry career.

Measuring Outcomes Leads to Better Outcomes
- Robert Emberger, Executive  Director, Whosoever Gospel Mission, Philadelphia, PA - This seminar will demystify outcomes and provide program participants with the skills they need to develop practical and easy to use quantitative and qualitative outcomes.

 

Henry                    Overcoming NIMBY (Not in my Backyard) and Other Systems of Injustice - Andy Bales, President, Union Rescue Mission, Los Angeles, CA - Andy Bales will share how Union Rescue Mission has worked to overcome NIMBYism. His work, as it relates to the dumping of homeless people in the Skid Row area, has been featured in national and local news. He will share strategies on how to be a blessing to our homeless friends and how to use local media in meeting the opposition.

 

Grand Salon B     Residential Leadership Training Program - Jay Cory, Director, Potter's House, Atlanta, GA  - This seminar will focus on how to successfully reproduce program leadership from graduates and committed volunteers as evidenced by the Servant Leadership and Ministry Training programs offered at Atlanta Union Mission.

 

Rockdale              Thrift Store Roundtable - Leo Gray, Moderator, President, Association of Christian Thrift Stores (ACTS)  - An opportunity for those operating thrift stores and those who are interested in opening a thrift store to ask questions and share experiences, the methods that work, and some that did not work.

 

Fayette                Volunteer Management - Robert Jackson, Volunteer Coordinator, Atlanta (GA) Union Mission; Melissa Clayton, Volunteer Coordinator, Atlanta (GA) Union Mission  - This workshop is a step-by-step approach to establishing and improving your volunteer program, including origins of volunteerism, program awareness, volunteer make-up, recruitment, policies/procedures, interview techniques, database management, development strategy, and retention.
