American Attitudes Toward Homelessness - Lisa Scott Benson, Senior Vice President,  Russ Reid Company, Pasadena, CA - Key findings from a national survey of donor attitudes toward homelessness and Rescue Missions will be discussed.

                             Case Management Fundamentals - Johnni Olson, Program Director, Women and    Children’s Shelter, Seattle's (WA) Union Gospel Mission; Stacy Cleveland, Administrative Assistant Women and Children’s Shelter, Seattle's (WA) Union Gospel Mission - We will present the basics tools needed for case managing guests in our programs, including what information to collect, how to take case notes and how to guide participants through the process from survival to victory in Jesus Christ.

 

Rockdale              Contextualizing Your Grant Proposals for a Secular Audience – Robert Emberger, Executive Director, Whosoever Gospel Mission, Philadelphia, PA - Rescue Missions appeal to secular foundations with a distinctively evangelical Christian message.  This workshop will provide strategies to contextualize proposals to provide secular givers with reasons to fund your mission according to their funding priorities.

 

Paulding               Donation Processing for Smaller Rescue Missions  – Jim Cowen, CEO, Aqubanc, LLC, Buffalo Grove, IL  – From mail delivery to electronic deposit to automated data capture especially for smaller ministries is the theme.

 

Forsythe               Education for the Non-Learner – Ron Gonzales, Executive Director, New Orleans (LA) Mission - Dealing with mentally-challenged, addiction-stunted and emotionally-abused students is the theme of this seminar.

 

Grand Salon C     Effective Mission Chaplaincy - Herb Opalek, CEO, Merced (CA) County Rescue Mission - What an Executive Director should look for in effectuating the role of a mission chaplain, as the chaplain with programmer, as the chaplain with overnight guests, and relating to other staff members.

 

Henry                    Facilities Management - David Coleman, President/CEO, Atlanta (GA) Union Mission  - An examination of issues related to facilities management including in-house vs. contract management; budgeting for maintenance; fixed asset budgeting; saving money through contract purchasing; and some “how-to’s” from the experts at Ohio Equities.

 

Newton                 Good to Great: The Nonprofit Update - Chasz Parker, Executive Director, Rescue Mission Alliance, Syracuse, NY Jim Collins published a supplement to his book Good to Great on the application of the book’s principles to the nonprofit sector.  The seminar will review the Good to Great principles along with Collins' application of those principles in the not-for-profit sector.

 

Grand Salon A     Growing in Executive Leadership (A Panel) - Rick Alvis, President, Wheeler Mission Ministries, Indianapolis, IN, Moderator; Rex Whiteman, President/CEO, Union Mission Ministries, Charleston; WV, Eric Burger, Executive Director, Great Falls Rescue (MT) Mission; Herb Pfiffner, Executive Director, Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission, Seattle, WA - This panel will share ideas relating to what they have learned as the executives of their organization, which they did not know when they started, and their ideas on continued education and growth, as well as areas of strength and weakness.

Grand Salon B     Leading By Asking … Not by Telling - Mark Siegrist, Director of Education, Denver (CO) Rescue Mission - One who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; one who doesn’t ask a question remains a fool forever.  We’ll consider the servant leadership principle of “asking” and “genuinely listening.”
