Grand Salon A     Abundant Life after Sexual AbuseHeather Rice, Hannah’s Place Program Director, Whosoever Gospel Mission, Philadelphia, PA – Explore some of the issues involved with counseling those who have been sexually abused as well as their practical implications for Rescue Mission ministry.

 

Cherokee              Avoiding the Development Danger Zone – Del Maxfield, Consultant, Turner, OR - Many missions are struggling financially.  Del will share how to get out of that dilemma, or avoid it in the first place.

 

Grand Salon B     Biblical Promises as a Tool For Recovery - Tom Laymon, Executive Director, Sunday Breakfast Mission, Wilmington, DE – How do Biblical promises fit into your recovery program?  Tom will share how to use the promises in counseling, and education, especially for the upper levels of your program.

Fayette                  Business Ownership by Program Graduates – Art Druckenmiller, Executive Director, AMEN, Inc., Atlanta, GA – AMEN, Inc. is an organization originated from the Atlanta Union Mission with the mission to serve individuals coming from dysfunctional backgrounds who are motivated to pursue business ownership.  The presentation will cover the challenges of initiating and operating the AMEN Process for people in recovery.

 

Henry                    Finishing a Capital CampaignKevin Foster, Principal, Foster and Associates, Holland, MI – The banking industry awards over $250 million a year in housing construction and renovation grants each year.  This session will give an overview on how the last 23% of a capital campaign can be obtained from one funding source.  Foster & Associates has helped 32 missions obtain $15.6 million in grants from the banking industry to complete their capital campaigns.

We will discuss: the legal definition, according to the FLSA; Academic and non-academic interns; interns pay; correct classification of an intern; and setting up and operating a successful intern program.

Forsythe               Risk Management - Avoiding the "Oops!" in Ministry – Nick Nicholaou, President, Ministry Business Services, Inc., Huntington Beach, CA – You get a letter saying you're being sued or that your insurance is being canceled.  OSHA's at the door.  This is risk management.  Risk cannot be eliminated from ministry, but many risks can be minimized.  We'll identify high exposure risks and improve your understanding of how to manage them.

East A                   Adjunct Professor and Consultant, Euclid, OH – Incredible changes are coming to the 990, and even Missions that do not file 990s will be expected by funders, watchdogs, and their community to comply with the IRS implied standards.   What are those changes, and what should you do to prepare for them?

 

Grand Salon C     You Have Built Your Web Site, Now Let's Build a Relationship! - Pam Dechert, CFRE, Account Executive, Etapestry, Greenfield, IN - This session explores the various aspects of web site and e-mail relationship building as it is being used in today's charity world, focusing on case studies.  You will be surprised at how simple it can be! Actual examples of breakthrough usage and results will be illustrated.

 

 

INTENSIVE SEMINARS – Each intensive seminar runs for all five sessions.  With completion of 5 sessions you will receive a Certificate of Completion which is equivalent to 0.5 Continuing Education Unit (CEU).  Attendance will be taken in each session and those not attending the first session will not be allowed into subsequent sessions.

  • MISSION FINANCIAL ISSUES , Dan Busby, CPA, Vice President, Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability, Winchester, VA  - Rescue missions face many important financial issues including raising charitable contributions, handling gifts-in-kind, internal and external financial reporting, external auditing, financial and fringe benefit policies and much more. This seminar will delve into the details of these issues and provide practical tools, including sample policies and procedures.
     

  • STRESS MANAGEMENT FOR THOSE IN RESCUE MINISTRY, Richard R. Eley, Ph.D., CFCC, CMC, The Lamplighter, Asheville, NC - How do you respond to things that happen that are not planned? Stress has become a buzz-word of our times. The term “stress" commonly has two meanings. One refers to anything out of the ordinary (called stressors); and the other, to changes that occur in the body as it attempts to adjust (the stress response). We will look at some basic Biblical principles that are useful in responding properly to stress in our everyday life.
     

  • CHARACTER, COMPETENCIES, AND PITFALLS OF LEADERSHIP, P. Wayne Fields, Executive Director, Oliver Gospel Mission, Columbia, SC This seminar will focus on the connection of leadership character, competencies, and pitfalls (CCP Model) by examining examples of Biblical and secular leaders. Emphasis will be given to practical application and a personal assessment tool will be presented. Material will be relevant to both aspiring and experienced leaders.
