| Content | Street Smart Express on April 11, 2011 Herb Opalek, CEO of Merced County Rescue Mission, passed away Saturday night. Kathy Opalek called AGRM President John Ashmen Sunday morning, sharing that her husband had just returned from Seattle and was in the Fresno airport when he collapsed. Paramedics at the airport as well as doctors at the local hospital tried unsuccessfully to revive him. John prayed with Kathy on the phone; she values the AGRM family's prayers for the Opalek family and the Merced County Rescue Mission staff and guests. AGRM has lost an uncommon personality, creative leader, and loving friend. Kathy requested that we provide her phone number, (209) 489-9590, for good friends who would like to talk with her. And she would appreciate your submitting your memories of Herb to the Merced County Rescue Mission via fax at (209) 722-9269. Some will be shared at his memorial on Saturday, and all will be collected into a book of memories and possibly posted online for people to share and enjoy. Thank you for your prayers. |
