Rev. Richard (Rick) A. Alvis 

President/CEO of  Wheeler Mission Ministries, Indianapolis, Indiana

EXPERIENCE

  • Two years with an interdenominational ministry traveling over the U.S. and Latin America.

  • Three years as an Assistant Pastor in charge of Christian Education and Youth.

  • Three and a half years as Director of Camp Reveal.

  • Ten years as Executive Director of the ministries of the Evansville Rescue Mission. This organization is involved in: providing for the homeless, Christian camping for inner city youth and church camps/retreats, and offering an alternative to the County Jail for adolescent boys, ages 13-17.

  • Presently (since April 1990): President/CEO of Wheeler Mission Ministries providing homeless shelter, family outreach, youth clubs, thrift store, and Christian camping.

EDUCATION

  • Graduated from what is now Taylor University, Ft. Wayne Campus, Ft. Wayne, IN with a Bachelor of Science in Christian Education, 1977.

  • Has done Graduate Studies.

  • Ordained Christian Union Minister.

SPEAKER

  • Civic Clubs, churches, retreats, camps, and conferences.

FAMILY

  • Wife - Julie, married May 18, 1974 in Spokane WA (Julie's home).

  • Children - Bethany Suzanne (8/5/82), Nathaniel Kirk (6/17/85), and Kyle Timothy (6/22/87).

  • Currently Vice President and Member of Association of Gospel Rescue Missions

  • Currently serves on ECFA Standards Committee

  • Served as Secretary (technically co-chair) for Indiana Billy Graham Crusade, 1998-99

  • Member of Community Church of Greenwood

  • Member of Christian Management Association, and Christian Camping International

  • Member of Downtown Rotary of Indianapolis

  • Served from 1993-1997 as Secretary /Treasurer of National Board of Trustees of International Union of Gospel Missions

  • Past Board Member of Coalition for Homeless Intervention and Prevention

  • Served as Board Vice Chairman of Community Church of Southport

  • Past President of Midwestern District of Association of Gospel Rescue Missions

  • Past Member of AGRM Growing Together Toward Excellence National Committee

  • Past Chairman of AGRM Education Committee

  • Certificate for Evangelical Teacher Training Association
